History of the Council
St. Bartholomew Council #11873 of St. Bartholomew Parish, East Brunswick,
NJ
was chartered on October 12, 1996 with 148 Charter Members.
Many thanks to our Pastor and founding Chaplain Msgr.
Michael J. Alliegro for his permission to start recruiting.
Our founding District Deputy was Albert McLaughlin and FDD Jim Grandjean
the New
Council Development Chairman for the Metuchen Diocese are both from St.
Bernadette
Council #8478 in Parlin.
Many parishioners belonging to other councils in the area
were instrumental in the formation of the council. They were George
Tardiff who was a member of Father Carey Council #1280 in Carteret and
became our founding Grand Knight, Gregory Di Lalo who was a former
Financial Secretary from St. Bernadette Council #8478 and served as Grand
Knight in 1997-98, Allan Dombrowski who was a Past Faithful Navigator and
a member with Richard Krempecki in Immaculate Conception Council #4907 in
Spotswood and Ken Czarnecki, PGK 1987-88 from Our Lady of Victory Council
#2061 in Sayreville served as Grand Knight of St.Bartholomew Council in
1998-99. From the recruiting efforts of this group, the council signed
over 100 new members into the Order (the rest being transfers in from
other local councils) and helped make the Metuchen Diocese
and the NJ State Council #1 in membership for the 1996-97 Columbian
Year.
The council has, since this great beginning, expanded to
over 240 members strong and growing
in the quality of membership, programs and spirituality which makes us the
great council we are today.
